Abstract

Insect thermal tolerance is commonly interpreted through individual responses such as heat-shock proteins, antioxidant enzymes, lipid remodeling, or metabolic adjustment. These processes, however, operate at different biological levels and need not vary together across taxa, life stages, or exposure regimes. This article develops a proposed molecular-physiological model in which thermal tolerance depends on coordinated preservation of proteome integrity, membrane and lipid state, energetic supply, and damage control and repair. Cellular stress signaling is treated as context-sensitive regulation rather than a universal master switch. The synthesis separates functional evidence from association, molecular response from organismal performance, and acute protection from longer-duration maintenance. Evidence across Diptera, Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, and Coleoptera indicates that component importance and direction can vary with species, developmental stage, oxygen and resource state, and exposure duration. The contribution is therefore not a conserved pathway but an evidence-bounded coordination logic that generates testable predictions about when canonical stress responses should remain compensatory or become insufficient.

Since 2020, Eurasia Specialized Veterinary Publication has been dedicated to publishing rigorous scientific research in veterinary medicine, entomology, animal health, and related disciplines. Our journals offer a peer-reviewed home for original research, review articles, and short communications, spanning veterinary and clinical sciences, animal health and disease management, pathology, pharmacology, diagnostics, zoonotic diseases, epidemiology, and public health. Our entomology titles bring together work on insect biology, ecology and behavior, taxonomy and systematics, physiology, biodiversity and conservation, pest management, and medical and veterinary entomology. We also welcome interdisciplinary research that explores the connections between animal, human, insect, and environmental health — work that reflects the reality that these fields rarely stand apart from one another. In all that we publish, our aim remains the same: to support the exchange of meaningful, practical scientific knowledge within the international research community.
